{Book Review} "Traces of Guilt" by Dee Henderson

Rating: 5/5

I've been a Dee Henderson fan for years. I am so excited that I get to review this book!

Traces of Guilt centers around Evie Blackwell on a quest to solve not one, but two, cold cases during her two weeks of vacation time. Evie works for the State Police, and the governor of Illinois desires to form a task force to focus on solving cold cases. Before the force officially launches, Evie has been asked to focus on two cold cases in Carin County as a test run for the task force.

The Thane brothers have lived in Carin County all their lives. Their father, Caleb Thane, was the sheriff when the Florist family disappeared. He and his deputies never got a break in the case. Now he and his sons are doing everything they can to help Evie finally close the case.

Sheriff Gabriel Thane would love to see two of his county's oldest cold cases solved. He welcomes Evie's help, but finds it unlikely that she will be able to solve both cases in just two weeks. The Florist family has been missing for twelve years, and six year old Ashley Dayton disappeared years ago. With no solid leads on either case, Evie has a difficult task ahead of her. With the help of Ann and Paul Falcon, Evie is confident that the Florist family's case and the Dayton girl's case can finally be solved.

Joshua Thane, Gabriel's brother, has his world rocked when his crush from sixth grade returns to town and asks him for a difficult favor. Josh hasn't seen Grace since she moved away when she was fourteen, and he learns of some terrible things she has endured. Now she has returned looking for answers, and she needs Josh's help. Will he be able to be the strong guy Grace needs in her life? By helping Grace, will Josh unknowingly end up helping solve one of the county's oldest cold cases?

Will Thane has finally found love. Karen Joy Lewis is everything to him, but a secret she has kept may destroy everything. While Will does what he can to help his brothers, his own love life may be in danger.

The Thane family, Evie, Ann and Paul work tirelessly. Evie only has sixteen days of vacation and she desperately wants to see the cases resolved in that time. Just when a new lead seems promising, it is crushed. Then another lead, and another disappointment. Will Evie be able to prove to the governor that the task force would be useful? If Evie can't solve the cases, will she even be invited to be a part of the task force?

Traces of Guilt is a typical Dee Henderson novel--and it is fantastic. This riveting romantic suspense novel boasts deeply developed characters and a well paced plot. Henderson manages to make every moment of the book intriguing--there are no boring parts! Henderson continues to produce clean suspense novels that Christians can know are safe to indulge in. If you are a fan of Henderson's, or like the writings of Dani Pettrey or Irene Hannon, this is a must-read.

Traces of Guilt will be released on May 3rd. It is definitely worth pre-ordering! To learn more about other books Henderson has written, visit her website: deehenderson.com
