{Book Review} "Befriend: Create Belonging in an Age of Judgement, Isolation and Fear" by Scott Sauls

Rating: 4/5

Scott Sauls writes with a style that simply captivates readers. He is the pastor at Christ Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tennessee. He writes honestly about the need for real, true friendship in a world where so many lack it.

Befriend explores the subject of the need for friendship and what Christians can do to help those who lack true friendships. God created us to live in community with others, and for those who do not experience friendships within a community, loneliness and depression can occur. In Befriend, Sauls calls Christians to befriend anyone and everyone. Written in the form of twenty-one essay like chapters, Befriend is a practical guide on how and why we should love the shamed, the dysfunctional, the vulnerable, strangers, refugees...basically, everyone. Each chapter focuses on a different group of people we can befriend and share Christ's love with.

Befriend is a much needed book on a topic not discussed enough. God designed us to have deep connections with others, yet so many people don't have this. Sauls calls Christians to step up and change this. Be prepared to feel challenged to change the way you go about choosing your friends after reading Befriend. Don't hesitate to dig into this book, then apply the concepts.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
