{Book Review} "You're Saying It Wrong" by Ross and Kathryn Petras

Rating: 5/5

I'm sure you've cringed at someone mispronouncing a word at some point in your life. Maybe you've been the one saying a certain word wrong all your life. Perhaps even you and your friends have gotten into arguments about the correct way to say difficult words. Enter, You're Saying It Wrong. This book will help you sound educated, and finally end those arguments about which of you is pronouncing the word incorrectly.

As someone who majored in English in college, I didn't think there would be any words in You're Saying It Wrong that would apply to me. Then I read the first word and realized I've been pronouncing "acai" wrong for years. As I read on, I found more and more words I had no idea I've been pronouncing incorrectly. I'm sure you'll have many "aha" moments as well as you flip through this enlightening book.

For each entry, the correction pronunciation is given, followed by a short description of the history of the word and how it is commonly mispronounced. Extra little tidbits, such as "How to Sound Like You're From Across the Pond" and "How to Sound Like a Patron of the Arts' are thrown in to entertain readers. This is a fun, intriguing book to set out on a coffee table and flip through. It'd also make for a good gift for that person in your life that chronically mispronounces words.

I received a copy of this book from the Blogging for Books program in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
