{Book Review} "Conspiracy of Silence" by Ronie Kendig

Rating: 4/5

Conspiracy of Silence is a thriller from beginning to end. Ronie Kendig is known for her suspenseful military novels, and this first book in The Tox Files doesn't disappoint.

Cole "Tox" Russel no longer exists, according to the American government. Everyone believes that the disgraced brother of the US president is dead. After a disastrous mission goes wrong, Tox's team takes the blame. So, Tox does what is necessary to clean their records. He disappears.

Three years later, Tox is drawn out from hiding for an important mission: to kill an assasin and stop a deadly plague. However, Tox isn't one to participate willingly without a list of demands. For starters, he wants his original team with him on the mission. Can he convince them to forgive him and fight with him again?

Haven Cortes, who recently lost her SEAL husband, has known Tox since she was a child. But she can't let him know that. She conceals her true identity, and somehow finds herself across the world as a part of his team. Her skills as a deception expert of vitally important to the success of Tox's mission, but being around him invokes romantic feelings that become increasingly difficult to conceal.

When the mission leads the team all around the world, and thrusts them deep into Biblical history and the history of the Aleppo Codex, Tox's team begins to wonder if they can really succeed. Facing defeat after defeat, the team has to learn all they can about Aaron's censer and the Aleppo Codex in an effort to save the world from a plague that's spreading in India.

Will Tox and Haven lead their team to success, or deadly failure?

Conspiracy of Silence takes readers on an enthralling, suspenseful ride into history as the team researches Aaron's censers and the Aleppo Codex. The plot is incredibly complex and leaves readers guessing until the very end. The characters are developed with such depth that it's impossible to know their full backstories after just one novel--they will continue to be developed through the subsequent books in The Tox Files. Conspiracy of Silence is a must-read for Ronie Kendig fans. Males and females alike will be drawn into this brilliant novel.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
