{Book Review} "Beginnings" by Steve Wiens

Rating: 5/5

Beginnings by Steve Wiens is a book that breaks down the stages of new beginnings by analyzing the days of Creation. There is a chapter dedicated to each day of Creation, and an epilogue that summarizes the book well. Each chapter is filled with stories--both personal stories and stories from the Bible--to illustrate Wiens' points. The stories of David, Abraham, Hannah and many more are told through the lense of how they handled their beginnings. Wiens digs deeply into some of the Hebrew words used in the account of Creation in order to bring to life the true meanings of the words. At the end of the chapters, there are "practice" sections and reflection questions. These questions help readers to think deeply about their own beginnings in order to see where they are in the stages of a new beginning.

Beginnings is a book for everyone. Wiens brilliantly sums up the stages people go through when encountering a new beginning in life. It is wonderful to be able to relate the stages of my own beginnings to the days of Creation. With each chapter, the stages of beginnings are laid out beautifully, and in such a way that readers can easily identify where they stand in their own lives. The Biblical stories that Wiens includes allow readers to look at the stories differently because he relates them back to the stages of beginnings.

Beginnings is written in such a way that everyone--from teenagers to grown adults--can learn something about their own lives. Who would have thought that the major life changes everybody faces could be summed up into the seven days of Creation? Wiens has done a fantastic job creating a book that many people will learn from.

Beginnings comes out January 1, 2016. It is currently available for preorder.

I received a copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for this honest review.
