{Book Review} "Nothing to Prove" by Jennie Allen

Rating: 5/5

Nothing to Prove: Why We Can Stop Trying So Hard unpacks the truth that we can never be enough because only God is enough. Jennie Allen, founder of IF:Gathering, guides readers through why we don't have to try to be perfect on our own because it simply isn't going to happen. Discussing issues such as hope, rest, love and more, Allen wants readers to understand their own personal sin problems so that we will recognize our need for Christ. Drawing from personal stories, as well as stories of her friends, Allen invites readers to realize we aren't alone in our struggles. We aren't enough, and that's okay. God is.

Allen draws from the book of John to open her chapters by retelling some of the most famous stories. She ends each chapter of part two with an "experience guide" that leads readers into self-reflection and lists action steps to take. This guide summarizes the chapters nicely and leaves readers with thoughts to ponder.

Allen's writing style is so conversational that it's as if you're sitting across from her over coffee. She writes on topics that are relevant to everyone who has ever struggled with trying to be enough on their own. Nothing to Prove is full of Biblical truths that will encourage readers to rely on Christ. Any book that points back directly to Jesus Christ is a fantastic book! I definitely recommend this book to anyone struggling with trying to be enough on their own.

I received a copy of this book through the Blogging for Books program. All opinions are my own.
