{Book Review} "Cold Shot" by Dani Pettrey

Rating: 5/5

Cold Shot is the first book in Pettrey's new series Chesapeake Valor.

Dr. Finley Scott is excited to be completing her archaeological dig at Gettysburg until Ranger McCray calls her one night with terrifying news--a modern day body has been discovered in the park. Working to solve the case, Dr. Scott uses her forensic anthropological skills to examine the remains. Along the way, Parker Mitchel, Dr. Scott's coworker at her lab, and Special Agent Declan Grey are called in to assist Dr. Scott and Ranger McCray. Things get tense with the four or them working together because of a complicated history between the three men.

When the four of them get close to identifying the victim and begin to ask the right questions, danger follows them everywhere. Will the group be able to work together long enough to find the murderer and get their questions answered? Can they all make it out alive?

Cold Shot is a wonderfully crafted story. Pettrey employs such deep characterization that readers are left wanting to learn more and more about the characters as the story unfolds. Each character has a well-developed background that helps to drive the story line. Wanting to learn the history of the characters, readers will be hooked from the very beginning by the characters just as much as they are by the murder mystery. Pettrey has managed to write a riveting, fast-pace crime novel without including offensive language or content. Cold Shot is the perfect novel for someone wanting the excitement of a suspense story without having to worry about the content being overly gruesome.

Cold Shot comes out February 2nd. It is definitely worth preodering!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for this review. All opinions are my own.
